Participant List <br />II P I'mina Re ort <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Sharron Hinton, ext 2302 <br />re i rY p TELEPHONE NUMBERS: <br />Hillsborough 732-8181 <br />Chapel Hill 968-4501 <br />Durham 688-7331 <br />Mebane 336-227-2031 <br />PURPOSE: To advise the Board of County Commissioners of information obtained from the <br />Latino Services Roundtable discussion. <br />BACKGROUND: During the January 2003 BOCC retreat, the Board expressed an interest in <br />identifying the local human services available to the county's increasing Latino population. <br />Commissioner Brown worked with Sharron Hinton to convene representatives from the various <br />non-profit agencies, schools, county human services departments and members of the IFC <br />Hispanic Task Force. Almost 50 individuals participated in a roundtable discussion held on <br />April 23, 2003. <br />Attached is a preliminary report from that meeting which summarizes the programs and services <br />offered by each agency/ organization as well as agency contact information. This roundtable <br />discussion was the County's first step toward promoting a coordinated approach to assuring <br />that the needs of the Latino residents are addressed. Follow-up steps include: (1) sharing this <br />preliminary report with the attendees for refinement and additional information; (2) re-convening <br />the group within the next six months for program updates and further discussion of relevant <br />issues. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: None <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board receive the report as <br />information. <br />
