2 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> PROCLAMATION <br /> "HEALTH CENTER WEEK" IN ORANGE COUNTY <br /> August 18 - 24, 2002 <br /> WHEREAS, There.are a significant number of residents and citizens in Orange County <br /> who are currently medically under-served for a number of reasons, the most prominent <br /> of which include geographical isolation, financial or language, and insufficient access to <br /> affordable health care;.and <br /> WHEREAS, Piedmont Health Services, Inc. is a.private, non-profit corporation that <br /> operates six health centers and a birthing center in four counties including Orange, <br /> Alamance, Chatham and Caswell and provide high quality comprehensive primary <br /> health care to medically under-served people; and <br /> WHEREAS, Piedmont Health Services has made great strides in this multi-county <br /> region by maintaining a high standard of accountability, demonstrating cost <br /> effectiveness, empowering the community to develop programs to meet its specific <br /> needs, and providing health care services in accessible low-cost environments; and <br /> WHEREAS, Piedmont Health Services has also made a significant difference in the <br /> county health care system by improving access to quality health care provided by <br /> trained professionals in areas that had been under-served, promoting individual <br /> responsibility and health awareness in the community, and offering primary preventive <br /> health care of the highest quality to reduce preventable deaths, costly disabilities, and <br /> communicable diseases; and <br /> WHEREAS, Community Health Centers like those operated by Piedmont Health <br /> Services promote 100% access and zero health disparities to help achieve primary <br /> health care for all people; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Orange County Board of <br /> Commissioners do hereby proclaim the week of August 18 through 24, 2002 as "Health <br /> Center Week" in Orange County and urge all citizens to recognize the important <br /> contributions of the health centers operated by Piedmont Health Services, Inc. to the <br /> improvement of the general quality of life of the residents and citizens of Orange <br /> County. <br /> Adopted this the 20'' day of August, 2002. <br /> Barry Jacobs, Chair <br /> Orange County Board of Commissioners <br />
