<br /> Town of Chapel Hill (the portion located in the County)had an estimated population of 64,785,the Town
<br /> of Carrboro had an estimated population of 21,494,the Town of Hillsborough had an estimated population
<br /> of 10,334 and the City of Mebane(the portion located in the County)had a population of 4,169.

<br /> Commercial,Industrial and Institutional Profile
<br /> The County's economy is characterized by a high degree of institutional and public-sector activity,
<br /> plus office, commercial and service-oriented business. According to the North Carolina Division of
<br /> Employment Security,the leading private industries in the County as of the third calendar quarter of 2025
<br /> were healthcare (9.49% of the County's workforce), retail trade (8.47% of the County's workforce),
<br /> hospitality (7.69% of the County's workforce), professional (5.53% of the County's workforce),
<br /> manufacturing(3.42% of the County's workforce), construction(2.57%of the County's workforce), other
<br /> services (2.51% of the County's workforce), administrative (2.11% of the County's workforce) and
<br /> educational services (2.06% of the County's workforce). In the same quarter, 40.96% of the County
<br /> workforce was employed by the State of North Carolina and 6.50% of the County's workforce was
<br /> employed by local governments.
<br /> The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and UNC Health Care System,both located in the
<br /> Town of Chapel Hill, are the largest employers in the County. As of June 30, 2025, they employed
<br /> approximately 14,515 and 18,055 employees, respectively. Established in 1789, The University of North
<br /> Carolina at Chapel Hill occupies 729 acres in the County and had an enrollment of approximately 32,438
<br /> undergraduate, graduate and professional students for the 2024-2025 academic year. UNC Health Care
