Buck Walter Lane, which provides access for Alice Miller Court, is located off the east side
of Richmond Road in Cheeks Township. The roads were platted in Phase I of Richmond Hills
Subdivision, approved by the Orange County Board of Commissioners in August 2000.
Cherry Street: Residents of Cherry Street (3 homes) have petitioned NCDOT to accept
maintenance responsibilities. Cherry Street, located in Hyde -Away Forest subdivision (recorded in
July 1969) off the east side of Mill Creek Road, Cheeks Township. NCDOT is working with property owners on Tanya
Drive to obtain right -of -way in order to make improvements to Tanya drive and add it to the State
Maintenance Program. NCDOT is also working with citizens on Glenn Street to remove
obstructions in the right -of -way in order for NCDOT to accept maintenance responsibilities for that
road. Glenn Street also provides access to Tanya Drive in Hyde -Away Forest subdivision.
NCDOT has investigated these requests (please refer to attached Secondary Road Addition
Reports) and has submitted the petitions to the Board of Commissioners for its review and
approval. The Board must take an administrative action to approve the petitions to NCDOT in
order for NCDOT to accept the roads into the State Maintenance Program.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no direct financial impact associated with this decision item.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Administration recommends that the Board approve the requests to
add the above named roads to the State Secondary Road Maintenance Program.
