Additionally, my involvement with PACE (Physical Activity& Community Engagement),
an inclusive, community-based program focused on disability access and belonging, has
strengthened my understanding of equity in practice rather than theory alone.
Together, these experiences have prepared me to contribute a thoughtful, community-centered,
and systems-aware perspective to the work of the Human Relations Commission.
Please explain your reasons for wanting to serve on this board
I am interested in serving on the Human Relations Commission because issues of
discrimination, access, and community trust are deeply connected to mental health, family
stability, and long-term well-being. Through my academic studies and community-facing roles, I
have seen how inequities in systems can affect people's sense of safety, belonging, and ability
to fully participate in their communities.
I am particularly drawn to the Commission's role in addressing concerns related to human
relations at the local level, where listening, dialogue, and accountability can have a tangible
impact. Orange County's diversity is a strength, and I believe it is important for county
institutions to reflect that diversity through inclusive processes and responsive policy
recommendations.
Serving on this board would allow me to contribute my experience while continuing to learn
from residents, advocates, and fellow commissioners, and to support Orange County's efforts to
promote equity, understanding, and respectful community engagement.
How would your particpation on this board contribute to the diversity of viewpoints?
I would contribute a younger adult perspective shaped by extensive experience working directly
with diverse individuals and families in transitionary and high-stakes moments, such as entering
college, navigating new systems, or seeking support. Through roles in orientation, admissions,
mentoring, and student advocacy, I have learned the importance of listening carefully,
communicating across differences, and helping people feel seen and respected within
institutional settings.
My background in psychology and human development also informs how I think about human
relations through a mental health and relational lens, emphasizing empathy, trauma-informed
approaches, and the impact of systemic barriers on individuals and communities. Additionally,
my involvement in disability-inclusive programming has reinforced the importance of
accessibility and representation in equity work.
I believe this combination of lived engagement, academic perspective, and advisory experience
would add balance to the Commission's discussions and support recommendations that are
responsive, inclusive, and grounded in real community experiences.
Do you have any personal or business interest(s)that could create a conflict of interest
(either real or perceived) if you are appointed to this board?
Boards/Commissions appointments:
Other Comments:
This application was current on: 12/15/2025 7:51:30 PM Date Printed: 12/29/2025
