This segment is envisioned to tie into the Mebane sidewalks <br /> system along US-70 (East Center Street). <br /> PROJECT OVERVIEW Relevant Community Needs: <br /> Location Reliable city-to-town connectivity <br /> Along US-70 from Mebane east toward Safer mobility beside a high-speed roadway <br /> Hillsborough, tying into West Hill Ave / Frequent, visible crossings to reach jobs, <br /> Occoneechee Mountain and Riverwalk; exact schools, services <br /> alignment and endpoints to be confirmed through <br /> inter-agency and NCDOT coordination Required Structures&Crossings: <br /> • At-grade crossings with enhanced treatments <br /> Key Connections at major intersections <br /> • City of Mebane and Town of Hillsborough Median refuges/curb ramps where warranted <br /> • Perry Hills Mini Park Drainage and ditch modifications to maintain <br /> • Efland Cheeks Community Park separation and accessibility <br /> • Hillsborough Riverwalk <br /> • Schools and commercial areas along US-70 Potential Constructability Challenges: <br /> • NCDOT coordination for sidepath within/ <br /> Total Length adjacent to US-70 right-of-way <br /> —9 miles (planning length) Long distances between safe crossings <br /> • Space constraints due to utilities, slopes, and <br /> Trail Type driveway frequency <br /> • Shared-use path (paved, separated) or natural Coordination with the Town of Hillsborough on <br /> surface trail (gravel/aggregate); TBD internal connections to Riverwalk via roads and <br /> • 10 ft typical width sidewalks <br /> ALIGNMENT WITH ORANGE COUNTY STRATEGIC PLAN <br /> Environmental Protection ✓ Shifts short highway trips to a separated sidepath <br /> & Climate Action on US-70 <br /> Supports daily walking/rolling along a high-visibility <br /> Healthy Community ✓ corridor <br /> Housing for All Indirect Benefit Provides access from neighborhoods to jobs, <br /> schools, and parks <br /> Delivers a major city-to-town connection with safer <br /> Multi-modal Transportation ✓ intersection treatments <br /> Public Education/ ✓ Improves non-auto access to schools and library <br /> Learning Community destinations <br /> Diverse &Vibrant Economy ✓ Links Mebane/Hillsborough points of interest and <br /> supports local spending, potentially in two counties <br /> 54 Draft Orange County Trails Plan <br />
