23 <br /> RELATED STUDY RELEVANT FINDINGS FORTHE TRAILS PLAN <br /> Orange County Bicycle The current draft Bike/Ped plan builds upon the 2024 Multi- <br /> & Pedestrian Plan modal Transportation Plan and establishes the County's first <br /> 2024-2026, Ongoing comprehensive vision for a safer, more equitable walking and <br /> rolling network focused on health, safety, and accessibility <br /> across all communities. <br /> • It identifies a countywide transportation network and <br /> recommends connections within and between communities, <br /> which the Trails Plan can use to target corridors that <br /> complement on-road links where demand and safety needs are <br /> highest. <br /> • Projects, programs, and policies are all prioritized to guide near- <br /> term and long-term improvements, signaling where investment <br /> is most feasible for trail corridors to align with key nodes. <br /> • The public engagement approach, which includes workshops, <br /> an online survey, and a digital map tool, is designed to pinpoint <br /> location-specific gaps for people traveling by bike or foot; the <br /> Trails Plan can use this to validate priority trail segments and <br /> trailhead locations. <br /> • The Bike/Ped plan intends to integrate bicycle and pedestrian <br /> priorities into regional planning efforts and county decision- <br /> making to create consistency in connectivity. <br /> NOTE:To ensure alignment between the two plans and avoid mixed <br /> messaging, the Trails Plan team met multiple times with the Bicycle <br /> & Pedestrian Plan team to compare draft networks, share maps, and <br /> confirm which nature trail and road routes complement one another. <br /> Representatives of the Bike/Ped Plan also attended the Trails Plan <br /> workshop on September 24, 2025 so participants could see how the <br /> two plans relate and reinforce one another. <br /> Chapel Hill Everywhere- • E2E plans over 25 miles of transportation greenway to give 57% <br /> to-Everywhere(E2E) of residents access to a greenway within 1/4-mile of where they <br /> Greenways Feasibility live. <br /> Study <br /> 2025-2026, Ongoing • A USDOT RAISE grant is funding a two-year feasibility study <br /> to analyze routes and alternatives, produce segment-level cost <br /> estimates, and deliver an implementation plan. <br /> • E2E is a pillar of the Chapel Hill Complete Community Strategy, <br /> connecting homes to daily destinations and integrating with <br /> local transit and planned development. <br /> 20 Draft Orange County Trails Plan <br />
