D35b. Please
describe how you
arrived at this
number. (200 word
limit)
1) Neighborhoods engaged in food waste diversion: W e estimated that
~40% of households will participate in food waste diversion efforts. The
average number of people/household in Orange county is 2.3, so we
multiplied the number of households by 2.3. W e also included the ~250
people who eat at the church/month. Total of 1,461 people impacted.
2) W e anticipate working with at least three garden partners: Baldwin Park
Community Garden, the Giving Garden, and the Carolina Campus
Community Garden. Speaking with the garden organizers gave us the
number of people who garden per year. If those people were also taking
food home with them, we multiplied the number of gardeners by 2.3. If the
garden mostly donated its produce, we just included the total number of
gardeners. Total of 395 people impacted.
3) W e looked at the food distributed from these gardens. This is more
difficult because some gardens donate some of their food to places like
PORCH or TABLE, and it's hard to know the impact. Other gardens know
how many people they distribute their food to, and we multiplied this number
by 2.3 for number of people impacted. Total of 322 people impacted
through food donations.
SUM = 2178
D36. Please
describe how you will
engage with and/or
educate project
participants and/or
the community. (250
word limit)
W hen participants (from the neighborhoods or the church) sign up for the
program, they will use a common sign-up form so that we can capture the
email addresses of all participants. This will enable us to distribute a
newsletter every other month that will provide updates on the project and
our progress, will include compost tips and tricks, and will include
information on other climate friendly activities that readers might want to
adopt. This email list will also allow us to survey the participants (no more
than three times per year) to get feedback, and to understand the impact of
this project.
For our new neighborhoods, we'll encourage neighborhood team leaders to
organize some type of project kick-off event where they can educate
people who are new to composting about what can be accepted, and how
to keep smells down, etc. At this event, we've included a small budget for
food to increase attendance, and to help build community.
Docusign Envelope ID: 60C8120B-2E2C-4F19-BFBC-3ADFB6A6F8E1
