Compostable bin liners will be purchased through Fifth Season in <br />Carrboro, with whom we've negotiated a large purchase discount. In <br />addition, printing will be done locally either through Staples or the UPS <br />store. Any food purchased for educational gatherings will be sourced <br />locally. This amounts to 100% of our materials budget. <br />D33. Please <br />describe any other <br />aspect of your <br />project that is <br />relevant to local <br />economic <br />development. (100 <br />word limit) <br />W hile CompostNow is based in Raleigh they work very closely with Orange <br />County Solid W aste and have developed a great relationship over the <br />years. W e also plan to hire a part-time staff member after 6 months of the <br />program to work to implement food waste collection in a low income or <br />more diverse neighborhood. <br />Criterion 6 - Amount and Duration of Engagement This criterion has a <br />maximum score of 3 pts (out of a total of 26 pts). <br />D34. Please <br />describe the target <br />population to benefit <br />from the project. (200 <br />word limit) <br />There are four target populations that will benefit from our program: <br />1) The neighborhoods who engage in food waste diversion will learn what <br />materials can be composted and how this practice reduces greenhouse <br />gas emissions. <br />2) The gardeners at the local community gardens that will receive finished <br />compost from CompostNow will learn the importance of using compost for <br />soil health. <br />3) The people who receive food from these gardens will benefit from having <br />healthy organic food to add to their diet. <br />4.) The people who work in community gardens, and those who walk or bike <br />their food waste to CompostNow bins, will incorporate more physical <br />activity into their daily lives. <br />D35a.
