(150 <br />word limit) <br />The FairOaks Composting program successfully met all deliverables and <br />came in at budget for the 2023 and 2024 Carrboro Green Neighborhood <br />Grant program. W e are currently mid cycle in the 2025 Carrboro Green <br />Neighborhood Grant program, which is funding our expansion into 5 total <br />Carrboro neighborhoods, and are on track for completion of our <br />deliverables and under budget. (Note, there are 2 additional Carrboro <br />neighborhoods that are currently self-funded, but used our model to get <br />started.) <br />D25. If you are <br />proposing to <br />collaborate with other <br />organizations on this <br />project, please <br />describe their <br />relevant experience <br />to the project and/or <br />the target population. <br />(150 word limit) <br />Since 2011, CompostNow, founded in Raleigh, has been creating a more <br />circular system by diverting food waste from landfills and using that to <br />create nutrient-rich compost — including in Orange County. CompostNow <br />has grown to serve 4 metropolitan areas in 3 states. They not only provide <br />reliable pickup of food waste each week, but also monthly detailed data on <br />the weight of food waste collected that month along with calculations of <br />GHG emissions avoided. <br />D26. (100 <br />word limit) <br />Carrboro’s Green Neighborhood Grants for 3 funding cycles, totaling <br />$7,500 for FairOaks. Four other Carrboro neighborhoods have been <br />funded through the Carrboro Green Neighborhood grant program for either <br />1 or 2 years as well. All of these neighborhoods are using CompostNow for <br />their food waste pickup and measurements. <br />D27. (250 <br />word limit) <br />The project director, Carrie Donley, and her 9-member leadership team <br />have piloted this program and overseen implementation in 6 other <br />neighborhoods using resources we've developed. In addition, the FairOaks <br />leadership team has deep connections to Orange County leaders and <br />community resources, especially those related to environmental protection <br />and justice. For example, Randee Haven-O’Donnell has served as a Town <br />Council member in Carrboro for 20 years and worked for decades as an <br />environmental educator. Jane Danielewicz and Greg Randolph serve on <br />Carrboro’s Climate and Environmental Advisory Commission. Haven- <br />O’Donnell and Randolph also serve on the Orange County Climate Council. <br />Cindy Shea founded the Sustainability program at UNC and worked there <br />for 24 years. Haven-O’Donnell, Danielewicz, Randolph, and Shea all have <br />a history of working closely with Carrboro’s Sustainability Director, Amy <br />Armbruster. Finally, Carrie Donley has been the visionary, founder, and <br />champion of the Composting program in Carrboro.
