D21. W ould your
proposed project help
you to take
advantage of funding
from other sources
besides this grant in
the future? (250 word
limit)
W e will ask participating neighborhoods to seek matching funds from their
HOAs for the following year to continue the program, and to eventually
make the cost part of their annual budget after proof of concept supported
by this grant.
Please note that only higher income neighborhoods will be able to
participate in this way, and the only truly equitable way to implement a
program like this is through either continued funding from Orange County or
implementation of food waste collection on a county-wide basis.
Nevertheless, successful completion of this project should position us
favorably to seek other grant funding.
D22. Please
describe any other
aspect of your
project that is
relevant to the
efficient use of grant
funds. (150 word
limit)
Regular surveys of FairOaks Composting participants have confirmed the
educational, behavioral change, and social value of the composting
program in addition to its immediate environmental benefits. Based on our
surveys, we estimate that half of participants (from the neighborhoods or
the church) will have greater awareness of climate change factors and also
make changes to their food choices (eg, less beef consumption), a third will
get to know more of their neighbors thereby increasing community
resilience, and a fourth will increase their physical activity (through walking,
biking, etc. to the centralized bins). W e've also observed in FairOaks that
the neighborhood has become more informed about and engaged in local
politics creating a greater sense of agency within the community. Making
climate change mitigation strategies easy, accessible, and relevant to
individual actions is another benefit. These benefits will last well beyond
the one year grant period.
Criterion 4 - Capacity of Applicant This criterion has a maximum score of 3
pts (out of a total of 26 pts).
D23. Has your
organization
completed projects of
this type in the past?
Yes
If so, what funds
were used? (100
word limit)
Carrboro’s Green Neighborhood Grant for 3 grant cycles/years, totaling
$7,500 for FairOaks. Other existing neighborhoods have participated in the
Green Neighborhood program for 1 or 2 years.
D24. Have you
completed similar
projects in the past
and successfully met
the proposed
budgets and
timelines?
Yes
Docusign Envelope ID: 60C8120B-2E2C-4F19-BFBC-3ADFB6A6F8E1
