Optional file upload for project impact calculations.
OCCAG_Impact_-_2025.xlsx
D17. Are there
additional impacts?
Yes
Please describe the
additional units of
impact your project
has.
There aren’t quantifiable additional units of emissions, but see D22 for
additional benefits of the project.
D18. Please
describe any avoided
financial costs or
savings related to
the project and over
what period of time
those costs will be
avoided/reduced.
(250 word limit)
Avoided tipping fees for Orange County = $4,662/year (based on $60 per
ton that municipalities pay for household waste disposal in Sampson
county). W e estimate additional avoidance of tipping fees of $46,620 over
an additional decade, which would give a total savings from avoided tipping
fees of $51,282 for 11 years. Even if we assumed very conservatively that
only 25% of participants continued to compost for 10 years after the
completion of the grant, the savings would be $16,317 over 11 years
($4,662 from the first year and $11,655 from the remaining 10 years).
In addition, there are costs borne to society for CO2 emissions, such as
the cost of disasters/property and infrastructure damage, reduced crop
yields, and increased health care costs due to the impacts on health, etc.
W e estimate a 202 ton/year reduction in CO2 equivalent GHG emissions,
generating $38,380 savings to society, based on recent EPA calculations
of $190/ ton of CO2 (EPA Social Cost of Carbon, 2023)
D19. Does your
project accelerate or
expand on existing
programs that
already show
positive impact?
(150 word limit)
Most certainly. As stated earlier, the project accelerates the expansion of
the highly successful FairOaks Composting program and its recent growth
to 6 additional Carrboro neighborhoods. W ith this additional funding, we will
expand the program to include 7 new Chapel Hill and Hillsborough
neighborhoods and a church in Chapel Hill. These new
neighborhoods/church can help promote the spread of composting within
the 2 additional towns in the future, and act as a stepping stone to help
Orange County Solid W aste implement a county-wide program in the future.
D20. Does your
project take
advantage of other
funding sources? If
yes, please describe.
(150 word limit)
For the first ~5 months of the project, our 5 existing Green Neighborhood
funded neighborhoods will continue to use Green Neighborhood funds until
they expire. Thus, approximately $3,683 will come from Carrboro Green
Neighborhood Grant funds this year.
Docusign Envelope ID: 60C8120B-2E2C-4F19-BFBC-3ADFB6A6F8E1
