D14. Please
describe the location
of the emissions
reduction. W here
would fossil fuels
have been burned if
not for your project?
For projects that
reduce electricity
usage or that
generate solar
energy, feel free to
state “grid-tied
electricity reduction”
if you cannot
determine the
location of emissions
produced from
electric power
generation. (200
word limit)
The emissions reduction will be from food waste diverted in Orange
County. County waste is currently trucked to Sampson County for disposal.
Orange County has a population that is 30% non-white and a poverty rate
of 12.4% (https://datausa.io/profile/geo/orange-county-nc). Sampson
County has a population that is 50% non-white and a 20.2% poverty rate
(https://datausa.io/profile/geo/sampson-county-nc). Trucking household
waste from Orange County to Sampson County is the type of policy that
contributes to racial and socioeconomic inequities and environmental
injustices that Orange County desires to avoid. This program would help
reduce some of those inequities directly by eliminating an estimated 77.7
tons of household waste from the Sampson County landfill, along with the
202 tons of CO2 equivalent GHG emissions.
D15. Please
describe any other
aspect of your
project that is
relevant to the
amount of emissions
that it will reduce or
avoid. (250 word
limit)
The project will avoid adding 77.7 tons of food waste to the Sampson
County landfill, saving municipalities $4,662 dollars in avoided tipping fees
($60/ton) along with other environmental benefits.
Sampson county is about 100 miles from Chapel Hill, while Brooks
Composting in Goldston is only about 35 miles from Chapel Hill. So the
distance that the food waste will travel is less when composting as
compared to taking it to the landfill, further saving on emissions.
Criterion 3 - Efficient Use of Funds This criterion has a maximum score of
4 pts (out of a total of 26 pts). Please see the Grant Project website for
further guidance and the Background and Information document for
information about technical assistance. Applicants are encouraged to ask
for clarification and technical assistance as early as possible and no later
than the posted deadline for questions.
D16. Is this a new
project?
No
The table below is
meant to support the
calculations of your
project's impact;
however, it may not
capture all aspects of
a project.
If the table is not able to capture the correct numbers for your project,
please enter "N/A" in those specific fields and upload an additional
document with this information.
Project Impact (do not enter a $ in front of the numbers)
Criterion 3 - Project Impact (Ongoing) (6).xlsx
Docusign Envelope ID: 60C8120B-2E2C-4F19-BFBC-3ADFB6A6F8E1
