C1f. Please select the
jurisdiction(s) where your
project is focused and
briefly state how your
project aligns with the
relevant Climate Action
Plans:
Town of Carrboro/Town of Carrboro Community Climate Action Plan
Orange County/Orange County Climate Action Plan
Please name the action
items from the Carrboro
Climate Action Plan that
best align with your
proposed project. (200
word limit)
2) “Reduce community greenhouse gas emissions by increasing access to renewable energy and
energy efficiency programs...that encourage more residents to choose more environmentally
friendly transportation options and reduce waste." This project will enable the W CHA community
to reduce energy waste.
3) "...Build resilience to the inevitable impacts of climate change with a focus on low-income,
historically marginalized neighborhoods disproportionately impacted by urban heat islands and
flooding.” W CHA is an affordable housing co-operative with an income threshold < 60% AMI.
Global warming only increases our residents' need for energy-efficient ventilation.
In CCAP's "Community Integration" section:
"The community sector accounts for 93% of greenhouse gas emissions within Carrboro…
Community buy-in in every aspect of this plan is essential for emissions reduction and climate
change mitigation."
"Recommendations … focus on grassroots/neighborhood scale efforts and … supporting a
variety of climate actions."
"Low income households spend 24% of their income on energy costs. To make housing
affordable, we ... also need to take a look at how to lower utility bills."
The "Buildings Recommendation" section prioritizes "Reduced electricity and gas use from more
efficient building envelopes, appliances, HVAC systems, lighting. Healthier buildings; older
buildings brought up to code; utility cost savings for building owners/occupants."
Please name the action
items from the Orange
County Climate Action
Plan that best align with
your proposed project.
(200 word limit)
1) "Built Environment and Energy" section:
"Improving [buildings] energy efficiency, the need for carbon-emitting energy from both electricity
and natural gas declines."
"Strengthen the County's role as an active resource to the local business and residential
community."
"Improve building performance with all new construction and retrofitting projects."
2) "Green Community" section: "Improved quality of life by providing a range of benefits for
residents, including improved health and well-being, increased morale, and cleaner air.
3) "Resilient Community" section:
"Natural variability in the climate and weather... [due to] greenhouse gas emissions."
"Identify and prioritize actions targeted to vulnerable populations within the County."
"Implement measures to reduce Heat and Drought Impact."
As climate change and global warming worsen, communities like W CHA are suffering increased
heat and humidity. Replacing the old windows of these 7 W CHA units will significantly reduce the
associated growth of mold and mildew in their homes, as well as related respiratory and other
health problems.
C2.
