As
this is more for the residents that are not students, and provides a means
of saving them money or putting their money towards better community
activity, this is valuable. Additionally, this project also may be able to help
connect the energy from that historic community hub to residents in the
future if rules change on energy interchanges.
Concerns included: Manufacturing of solar panels is a very socially and
environmentally unjust endeavor. It involves child labor in Congolese cobalt
mines, devastating lithium mining, and toxic waste from rare earth/heavy
metal mineral processing. The panels are often then assembled in China
using child/slave labor.
This does impact a limited number of low-to moderate-income Black
families who are specifically in this congregation and feels more like a
symbolic act than significant impact to the parishioners (based on their
cost-savings for energy). A lot of assumptions made about increased
adoption among neighbors, for example. I do appreciate congregants being
part of the discussion.
Docusign Envelope ID: F42389BC-2D83-4E00-BC11-D720BFF48873
