D36. Please
describe how you will
engage with and/or
educate project
participants and/or
the community. (250
word limit)
From the outset of this project, SolarEquity has been committed to initiating
and maintaining sustained engagement with the church congregation and
broader Northside community. Months of dialogue with the church
leadership and the Jackson Center culminated in our first town-hall-style
community meeting at the church, where the entire congregation was
invited and encouraged to participate in shaping our project’s plans. During
the meeting, we distributed technical assistance packets to cultivate an
understanding of solar and energy among the community. Our team also
took the Jackson Center’s audio tour to better understand the
neighborhood’s history and the St. Joseph’s CME Church’s role within it.
After the project’s completion, SolarEquity will remain involved. W e plan to
host follow-up meetings and interviews, and participate in church services
and events. W e will also provide ongoing support, system monitoring, and
educational outreach. SolarEquity plans to collaborate with the Jackson
Center to track the project’s influence on residential solar adoption and
energy awareness across Northside. Finally, we will share the
neighborhood’s story with the broader UNC Chapel Hill student body. W e
hope this will foster meaningful connections between UNC students and the
neighborhood’s long-term residents.
D37. How will you
measure the success
of that engagement
or educational effort?
(200 word limit)
SolarEquity’s education and engagement efforts, and the corresponding
evaluations of their success, are divided into two distinct sections.
First, we will measure the efficacy of the technical assistance packet by
tracking the number of structures in the Northside Neighborhood that adopt
solar in the 3 years following the church’s adoption of solar. The technical
assistance packet outlines the benefits of solar from an environmental and
financial standpoint. Furthermore, the packet highlights the lack of
maintenance required to maintain a solar project. W e will know if the
technical assistance packet and educational efforts were successful if
Northside denizens take the benefits to heart and decide to adopt solar on
their own accord. W e plan on lobbying the Jackson Center to track the
number of solar projects in the neighborhood in their bi-annual censuses.
W e will evaluate the success of the organization's engagement efforts in
the Northside Neighborhood with service opportunity participation. For the
next three years, we set the expectation that SolarEquity participates in
three community service initiatives in the Northside Neighborhood per
semester. At least five SolarEquity volunteers must attend the service
opportunity for it to register as a successful service day.
Docusign Envelope ID: F42389BC-2D83-4E00-BC11-D720BFF48873
