She noted that the county is nowhere near <br /> meeting the affordable housing need in the county when looking at all the studies. <br /> Cy Stober provided a caveat that based on a recent approval by Chapel Hill, 1,100 units <br /> are restricted as affordable. <br /> Commissioner Greene said that Carrboro is currently revising their UDO. She said that a <br /> Carrboro council member said that they are planning to position the town to build more housing <br /> in the next few years. <br /> Vice-Chair Fowler asked if it would be multi-family. <br /> Commissioner Greene said that's yet to be determined. <br /> Chair Hamilton said this is timely information given the retreat planned for March 21 st. She <br /> noted that housing affordability has been an issue in the county since she moved here in 2001. <br /> Commissioner Bedford said she is thinking of going back through the draft land use plan <br /> and reviewing the suggested revisions again. She asked if staff was going to go back through <br /> the plan or if they needed the commissioners to do some homework. <br /> Tom Altieri said they would like to hear from the Board if there is anything in the document <br /> that is off-base and should be removed. He said there may be aspects where the Board isn't <br /> sure, and they'd like more information from the public. He gave an example of rural conservation <br /> neighborhoods where the Board might like more feedback. <br /> Commissioner McKee asked if there is an estimated cost to the county for providing <br /> affordable housing. <br /> Cy Stober said that is difficult to determine due to changing federal funding levels. <br /> Commissioner McKee said that is something the Board will have to reconcile in the future. <br />
