3 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> ARTS COMMISSION <br /> February 12, 2026 <br /> Laura Jensen <br /> Clerk to the Board of County Commissioners <br /> 300 W.Tryon St. <br /> Hillsborough,NC 27278 <br /> Dear Laura: <br /> The Orange County Arts Commission (OCAC)Advisory Board unanimously approved the following <br /> recommendations at our meeting on Monday, February 9, 2026: <br /> - Bren West, Position#6: Bren is visual artist based in Chapel Hill. She brings the perspective of a <br /> professional working artist,as well as being a member of the board of the Orange County Artists Guild. <br /> - Mary Carter Taub, Position#15: Mary Carter is a visual artist based in Chapel Hill specializing in Public <br /> Art. She has been involved in our organization over the years through Uproar and other public art <br /> initiatives. <br /> We're also excited that Denise Duffy, Position#11,has agreed to serve a 2nd term and Francesca Talenti, <br /> Position#10,has agreed to serve her first full term. <br /> Lastly,we'd like to request consideration for Gideon Young, Position#4,to serve a second term. Despite his <br /> absences, Gideon is a very engaged board member. He is a traveling Teaching Artist with the A+ Schools Program <br /> through the NC Arts Council,teaching poetry in schools throughout the state. He is also member of the Carrboro <br /> Poet's Council where he helps to coordinate the West End Poetry Festival.These are two important areas that are <br /> only represented by Gideon on our board. He has never missed a meeting without giving notice and following up, <br /> and we'd very much like to keep him on our board for a second term.
