HousingAvailabilityin Orange County: IBC <br /> Chamber Foundation Study <br /> Staff Compared Survey Results to Housing Analysis From <br /> • NC Chamber Foundation's 2024 "Housing Supply Gap Analysis", as analyzed by Bowen <br /> National Research <br /> • The analysis is statewide but provides a Housing Supply Gap Analysis for each county. For <br /> Orange County, the study identified a 2029 need for <br /> • 7,557 new rental units, 4,467 of which need to be "affordable" (defined as <80% of the Area Median Income) <br /> • 6,312 new for-sale home, 305 of which need to be "affordable" <br /> • Assuming that all multifamily units and one-third of townhomes units will be rentals, the <br /> recent survey identifies that Orange County is providing: <br /> • 8,726 new rental units <br /> • 2,639 new for-sale homes <br /> 752 units are restricted as "affordable" <br />
