1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: March 10, 2026 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 7 <br /> SUBJECT: Historic Preservation Commission —Appointment Discussion <br /> DEPARTMENT: Board of Commissioners <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> Recommendation Clerk's Office, 919-245-2125 <br /> Members and Applicants Summary Sheet <br /> Application of Person Recommended <br /> Applications of Other Applicants <br /> Membership Roster <br /> Applicant Interest List <br /> Annual Work Plan <br /> PURPOSE: To discuss an appointment to the Historic Preservation Commission. <br /> BACKGROUND: The Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) is charged with undertaking an <br /> inventory of properties of historical, prehistorical, architectural, and/or cultural significance. It <br /> recommends areas to be designated or removed as "historic districts" and reviews and acts <br /> upon proposals for alterations, demolition, new construction, etc. <br /> In considering new applicants, the HPC is required to follow the guidelines from the State <br /> Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) in order for the County to remain eligible to participate in <br /> the state's Certified Local Government (CLG) program. Those guidelines include the following <br /> language governing the qualifications of prospective HPC applicants: <br /> "All members shall have demonstrated experience or knowledge in history, architecture or <br /> related disciplines that is supported by resume information sufficient to allow the SHPO to <br /> confirm the qualifications of members, pursuant to 36 CFR Part 61." <br /> The Board of County Commissioners appoints all seven (7) At-Large members. <br /> The following individual is recommended for Board consideration: <br /> NAME POSITION TYPE OF EXPIRATION <br /> DESCRIPTION APPOINTMENT DATE <br /> TERM <br /> Carol Ann At-Large First Full Term 03/31/2029 <br /> Lewald (reappointment) <br /> If the individual listed above is appointed, no vacancies remain. <br />
