Please explain how
your project can still
be successful if you
don't receive the full
requested amount.
(200 word limit)
Yes, if awarded partial funding, the Town will plan to lower the number of
energy audits performed, reduce the program’s marketing budget, and
reduce the number of energy audit kits created. Staff will plan to keep the
educational components of the program, including compensating the cohort.
Section D. Scored Criteria Criterion 1 - Social Justice and Racial Equity
This criterion has a maximum score of 6 points (out of a total of 26 points).
D1. W ho will directly
or indirectly benefit
from your project?
Please be as
specific as possible
on the
characteristics of
those who will benefit
including, gender,
race, age, income
level and geographic
location. (200 word
limit)
This program will directly benefit groups of Carrboro residents in several
ways. Those who check out the energy audit kits will benefit by learning
more about their home’s energy use. The members of the cohort will benefit
from energy efficiency training. Residents who are assisted by cohort
members as well as residents who attend workshops will directly benefit by
learning basics about energy efficiency as well as low-cost strategies to
reduce the energy use of their homes. In addition, residents who receive
energy audits from the Town will benefit by identifying areas of inefficiency
in their homes and being informed of actionable recommendations for
improvement. All residents who reduce energy consumption through this
program will also benefit from lower energy bills. Homeowners who
complete energy efficiency improvements on their homes will also increase
the value of their residences. For example, the Journal of Light
Construction estimates that almost two-thirds of the cost of an HVAC
electrification conversion is recouped in increased home value. The
outreach performed by cohort members, program workshops, and energy
audits will be concentrated in Carrboro’s low-income and underserved
communities.
D2. W hat are the
demographics of the
area where your
project takes place?
(150 word limit)
Staff will concentrate outreach about the program in areas known to have a
higher percentage of underserved and low-income residents. These areas
include Census Tract 107.07, which is a federally designated Low-Income
Housing Tax Credit Qualified Census Tract. The median household income
in this census tract is $47,633, which is lower than Carrboro’s median
household income of $85,927. The minority population of the tract is 34%,
while Carrboro as a whole is 36%. Block groups 1 and 3 within this tract
were identified as potentially underserved communities by NCDEQ.
Docusign Envelope ID: B7F69C66-F314-4506-B393-F26F9CEC96B0
