D36. Please describe how
you will engage with and/or
educate project participants
and/or the community. (250
word limit)
W e are collaborating with the Carrboro Stormwater Manager and the Stormwater Advisory Commission to conduct
education and outreach events in areas with stormwater-related challenges in Orange County. W e will recruit and train
teachers to deliver the green infrastructure curriculum and conduct after-school sessions for Orange County students, who
will earn stipends after completing the program by installing riparian buffers on properties in the Bolin Creek watershed.
Teachers and students will also participate in selecting and promoting the most effective installation sites in Orange
County’s underserved communities.
D37. How will you measure
the success of that
engagement or educational
effort? (200 word limit)
The students will take pretest and mid-test surveys to measure knowledge improvements. After training completion, they will
complete questionnaires to measure progress in understanding the sustainable STEM concepts they are implementing and
how they envision their place in their community. The Penn State University laboratory of Dr. Kevin Curry will scientifically
analyze and quantify the environmental, student, and community benefits of the 5-day rain garden curriculum at the end of
each cycle, including pre-test, mid-test, and post-test data collected from student participants. See details of the study here:
https://static1.squarespace.com/static/62ab3a58129576150e548656/t/67928fc24f292c0b8221ee53/1737658307428/2024+test+results+USS.pdf.
Carrboro Landowners will participate in a survey conducted by USS Staff to measure customer satisfaction. USS will also
speak with landowners annually to monitor GI practices and photo-document each site.
D38. Is there anything else
you would like to add about
the benefits of your project,
how much community
engagement and/or
education it will create, or
how long it will last? (150
word limit)
USS will continue its relationship with the property owners participating in the program by returning every year to perform
monitoring services to ensure that every BMP installation continues functioning as intended. USS will continue to work with
participating teachers and students to ensure that future students and low-income residents benefit from the program.
Criterion 7 - Time to Complete This criterion has a maximum score of 3 points (out of a total of 26 points).
D39. How long will it take
your project to complete and
demonstrate the positive
impacts you describe? (200
word limit)
18 months: Jan 2026 to June 2027.
Section 5. If proof of insurance can only be written for one year, an update will be required for
all ongoing projects. Renewal certificates must be sent to the jurisdiction 30 days prior to any expiration date, cancellation
or modification of any stipulated insurance coverage. NOTE: Upon request, insurance requirements may be reviewed on a
case by case basis by the County. Please contact the staff identified on the Submission Requirements on Page 12 if you
have questions or would like to request a review of your insurance requirements.
The table below includes guidance regarding the forms of liability insurance and minimum policy amounts that are required if a grant is awarded.
Table 1.
