D9. Please describe
any other aspect of
your project that is
relevant to Social
Justice,
Environmental
Justice and Racial
Equity. (200 word
limit)
All people deserve a healthy environment, and our project is deeply rooted
in the principles of social justice, environmental justice, and racial equity.
By targeting underserved Orange County neighborhoods with low Tree
Equity Scores, high Social Vulnerability Index ratings, and pronounced
Urban Heat Island effects, we ensure that residents - many of whom are in
low-income or racially marginalized communities - gain equitable access to
the benefits of a healthy tree canopy.
This focus on environmental justice directly improves public health, energy
resilience, and climate adaptation, particularly for households most
vulnerable to heat stress, flooding, and poor air quality. Through our Pay-
W hat-You-Can model, cost is never a barrier, and residents collaborate in
species selection, placement, and maintenance planning.
Beyond immediate environmental gains, the project fosters community
empowerment. W e involve residents, local leaders, and partner
organizations in decision-making, ensuring the work reflects neighborhood
priorities and builds long-term stewardship.
TftT is committed to upholding and strengthening a culture of equity,
diversity, and inclusion in our operations, partnerships, and Board
governance. These values directly inform how we design and deliver
projects that close gaps in environmental access while fostering pride,
ownership, and lasting community benefit.
For more, see our JEDI statements:
https://www.treesforthetriangle.org/our-core-beliefs--treethos.html
Criterion 2 - Emissions Reduced This criterion has a maximum score of 4
points (out of a total of 26 points). Please see the Grant Project website
for estimation tools and the Background and Information document for
information about technical assistance. Applicants are encouraged to ask
for clarification and technical assistance as early as possible and no later
than the posted deadline for questions.
D10a.
