D7. Are the impacted
residents already
aware of the
potential positive and
negative impacts of
your project and the
steps you are
taking? If not, please
describe your plan to
engage with them
and how you will act
based on their input.
(200 word limit)
Some residents are already aware of the potential benefits and
considerations of our planting projects through past participation in Trees
for the Triangle programs and community events. However, for new
neighborhoods identified through our heat island and tree equity mapping,
we will implement a proactive engagement plan before planting begins.
Our approach includes:
-Direct outreach via door-to-door visits, flyers, and emails to explain both
the benefits (shade, cooling, flood mitigation, air quality improvement) and
potential responsibilities (watering, seasonal care).
-Community meetings and site visits to discuss species options, placement
preferences, and any concerns about maintenance, safety, or
infrastructure.
-Transparent communication on our Pay-W hat-You-Can model and
voluntary participation to ensure no financial or social pressure to join.
-Feedback integration, where resident input on tree type, location, and
timing directly shapes the planting plan.
By creating space for dialogue and incorporating local knowledge, we
ensure residents feel informed, respected, and confident about the project.
This process builds trust, reduces potential conflicts, and ensures the
environmental and social benefits are tailored to community priorities.
D8. During and after
the project, what will
your continued
engagement with the
impacted community
be? (200 word limit)
Our commitment to impacted communities extends well beyond the initial
planting. During the project, we will maintain regular contact with
participating households to provide guidance on tree selection and
placement then watering, mulching, and seasonal care. This includes
optional phone access to TftT staff to troubleshoot issues. TftT has a
policy to replace any dead tree in perpetuity.
W e will also invite residents to community tree care workshops that cover
pruning basics, storm preparation, and the broader benefits of a healthy
canopy. These workshops will be hosted in or near participating
neighborhoods to ensure accessibility.
After the project, we will continue engagement through:
-A volunteer network to provide peer-to-peer support.
-Inclusion in our newsletter and event invitations to foster connection with
the wider Trees for the Triangle community. This community serves as a
resource for tree care along with fostering a greater sense of stewardship
over our natural resources.
By maintaining consistent relationships, we ensure that trees thrive,
residents feel supported, and the project’s environmental and social
benefits grow over time. Our goal is to transform each planting into a long-
term partnership that empowers communities to take pride in and advocate
for their expanding tree canopy.
Docusign Envelope ID: CB1A7685-96B7-4FBD-80E0-8CF756D5E579
