Established July 2012 1 Offices in Hickory& Shelby, NC I Licensed in NC, SC, VA,TN, MA, AL, MD
Since 2012, CVET has grown into a dynamic, multidisciplinary firm with 46+ combined years of
experience and 33 employees. We offer a full range of geotechnical and environmental engineering,
construction materials testing, and special inspection services. We proudly serve developers, architects,
contractors, municipalities, and property owners across the South, Midwest, and Mid-Atlantic regions of
the United States.
We are a Small Professional Services Firm (SPSF) with the NCDOT and hold multiple prequalification
design and inspection disciplines for the NCDOT. Our in-house laboratory in Hickory, NC holds AASHTO
accreditation for concrete.
At CVET, we combine the personalized service and agility of a small firm with the technical expertise
and resources of a large one. Our in-house capabilities and commitment to staying at the forefront of
technology ensure we meet every project need efficiently and effectively.
Our diverse, licensed team collaborates across disciplines to deliver responsive, seamless support—from
early-stage planning through final inspection. With a skilled team of engineers, geologists, and
technicians, CVET values accuracy, timeliness, and on-site safety, aiming to provide clear findings,
recommendations, and a path forward for clients.
Geotechnical Engineering Services
CVET's geotechnical division bridges the gap between geology and structural engineering. Our in-house
fleet consists of four track-mounted drill rigs, and a tractor-mounted 20-ton press. We specialize in
performing technical in-situ tests and collection of high-resolution data to support value-engineered
designs that minimize construction costs for project owners. Our in-house fleet can perform flat blade
Dilatometer Modulus Testing (DMT), Cone Penetration Testing (CPT), Seismic Cone Penetration (sCPT),
Standard Penetration Test (SPT) borings, NQ and PQ rock coring, air track drilling, and direct push
exploration methods.
Our experience is based on miles of vertical drilling, sampling, and testing enabling us to strategically
plan the approach for every new project. With thousands of test borings completed across the South,
Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States, we have extensive experience in drilling,
sampling, and testing soils and rock. This breadth of fieldwork gives us a deep understanding of the
subsurface geologic conditions that affect the performance of structures, roadways, embankments, and
other infrastructure. Based on each project's subsurface profile and specific project requirements, we
provide practical, innovative, and cost-effective geotechnical recommendations tailored to the
challenges at hand.
A sample of the services we provide follow:
• Due diligence/planning/value engineering
• Field permeability testing(double ring infiltrometer)
• Geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring(settlement plates, inclinometers, extensometers, piezometers)
• Evaluation of alternative foundation systems (micropiles, Geopiers, stone columns, auger cast piles, drilled
shafts, driven piles, displacement piles, timber / composite piles, helical anchors, load transfer utilizing
geosynthetic materials(fabric or grid)
• Sinkhole exploration and remediation recommendations
• Pavement section evaluation and design
• Slope stability analysis and embankment design (reinforced and non-reinforced)
• Geostructural design, Retaining Wall design, design of Earth Retention Systems
