About The Founder/CEO of MedicalTraining.me
Melissa G. Overton is an award winning, regionally recognized, and internationally certified educator, mentor,
speaker, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. She is 1 part nurse, 2 parts thriving entrepreneur, 5 parts high-energy
speaker, 3 parts networking & connection maven, 2 parts loving momma, 1 part hip hop lover. Too many parts?
Not surprising. Melissa commands over 25 years of experience in highly regulated, high-stress, community-based,
and diverse environments, including 17 years of EMS, ER, critical care, and nurse leader expertise. Combine
nursing with being raised by entrepreneurs, a certified John Maxwell trainer, speaker, and coach, and single-
handedly running a business for 10+ years – and you have a powerhouse for addressing the pressing needs of
leaders and organizations looking to succeed.
Founder and CEO, Melissa Overton, launched MedicalTraining.me in March 2013. The endeavor started as a
company to provide continuing education to medical professionals and First Aid/CPR/AED training for companies
and non-health care individuals. Melissa quickly recognized more than technical
skills were needed for professions to succeed. She witnessed lost leadership,
dangerously high burnout rates, and undeniably toxic work cultures.
Today, MedicalTraining.me and Illuminated Training (as of 2020),
provide a robust catalog of meaningful leadership and development
programs, created by Melissa, to ensure individuals, businesses, and
entire communities succeed. In 2022, recognizing Overton’s
leadership prowess, she was hired to completely redesign and lead
the Leadership Johnston program. She implemented the Program in
2023, cultivating and activating a group of leaders county-wide,
impacting more than a dozen communities.
A proud graduate of East Carolina University (ECU), Melissa gained not
only hands-on leadership experience, but also a deeply instilled
commitment to community – creating it and nurturing it. Melissa has long
been recognized for her contributions to the varied communities in which she
lives and works. In 2019, Melissa was recognized as the Triangle East Chamber of
Commerce “Small Businessperson of the Year”. In 2021, she was awarded the ATHENA International
Leadership Award recognizing her leadership and extensive volunteer work. Melissa received the “2021
Innovator of the Year” and twice received the “Leaving a Legacy Award” and “Volunteer of the Year” (2021,
2023) from the Clayton Chamber of Commerce, recognizing her ongoing contributions to develop a thriving
workforce. Most recently, Melissa was nominated for “Clayton Citizen of the Year” (2024).
Melissa is a trusted leader who puts her whole heart and mind into her activities and ensures all ships rise with
her applied compassion, amazing networking and connecting skills, and ever-growing knowledge. When not
leading, innovating, connecting, training, and educating, Melissa enjoys deep connections with family, friends, and
shaking her groove thang to some old-school hip hop.
