Savings on State Spending. Even if no specific bill is introduced on this topic,
provisions to this effect could be proposed for inclusion in the final budget bill
approved by the General Assembly.
After the BOCC reviews and considers approval of the attached resolutions, it is suggested that
the resolutions be forwarded with a cover letter to Orange County's legislative delegation,
leaders of the North Carolina General Assembly (including chairs of Appropriations and
Education Committees), the Governor, and the North Carolina Association of County
Commissioners. Providing a copy of the third resolution to the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City
Schools and the Orange County Schools systems and the North Carolina School Boards
Association may also be appropriate.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with consideration of the
resolutions.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board review the attached draft
resolutions, make changes as necessary, approve the resolutions, and authorize the Clerk and
Chair to forward the resolutions, along with a cover letter, to Orange County's legislative
delegation, leaders of the General Assembly, the Governor, the North Carolina Association of
County Commissioners, the two schools systems, and the North Carolina School Boards
Association.
