~~ <br />NORTH CAROLINA <br />ORANGE COUNTY <br />RESOLUTION REGARDING <br />LEGISLATIVE MATTERS <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of <br />Orange County that the Board hereby requests the Senator and <br />Representatives representing Orange County take the following <br />positions on legislation regarding the following matters: <br />1) Oppose House Bill 863, version 1, a copy of which is <br />attached as Exhibit A, and oppose all subsequent versions <br />or other bills that seek to require all school systems in <br />the State to delay (except in instances of year-round <br />schools and "good cause" as defined in the bill) the <br />beginning of the school year until after Labor Day; <br />2) Oppose any bill, any amendment, or any addition to a <br />bill, including an appropriation bill or a bill or <br />resolution funding the State budget, which has the effect <br />of mandating the merger of any separate school systems <br />within one county, a proposal which was included in a <br />report from Governor Mike Easley's Commission to Promote <br />Government Efficiency and Savings on State Spending; <br />1 <br />
