21 <br /> Page 2 of 2 Clarence Potter <br /> Durham Technical Community College Board of Trustees <br /> Please explain how your background, education and experience is relevant to this board <br /> My engagement with Durham Technical Community College (DTCC) coursework began during <br /> my high school tenure at Chapel Hill High School, where I was dually enrolled for my junior and <br /> senior years. During this period, I successfully completed several automotive courses. <br /> Furthermore, I pursued and achieved fire certification through DTCC while serving as a Junior <br /> Firefighter at the New Hope Fire Department. Over the years, I have also completed <br /> Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)training and various continuing education courses in <br /> emergency medical services. My twenty-year career in the fire service in Orange County has <br /> involved continuous professional development, utilizing DTCC s Human Services and Public <br /> Safety programs. The certifications I have earned through these programs include, but are not <br /> limited to, Firefighter Certification, Technical Rescuer, Driver Operator, and Fire Officer <br /> certifications. <br /> Please explain your reasons for wanting to serve on this board <br /> As a local Fire Chief, I have a direct and vested interest in the continued success of Durham <br /> Technical Community College (DTCC). Our department regularly hosts and utilizes DTCC- <br /> administered classes for departmental training. Furthermore, we frequently recruit and hire <br /> personnel who have received certifications through DTCC. The college serves a vital role as a <br /> pipeline for qualified professionals in fire and emergency services. Beyond my professional <br /> capacity, as a parent in Orange County, I am passionate about the educational and career <br /> opportunities that the community college system, particularly DTCC, provides to our local youth. <br /> How would your particpation on this board contribute to the diversity of viewpoints? <br /> As outlined above, my extensive involvement with Continuing Education programs, which <br /> includes serving on the advisory board for the Fire and EMT curriculum within the Chapel Hill- <br /> Carrboro School System s Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, provides unique <br /> experience and valuable insight into the delivery and effectiveness of technical education <br /> programs. <br /> Do you have any personal or business interest(s)that could create a conflict of interest <br /> (either real or perceived) if you are appointed to this board? <br /> Boards/Commissions appointments: <br /> Other Comments: <br /> This application was current on: 12/9/2025 8:13:25 AM Date Printed: 12/12/2025 <br />
