Montgomery
Josh Brady
Jay Smith
Jorge Gomez
4.3
Reopened in late 2018 as Durham County Administration Building II, this former,
1970s-era judicial building was extensively renovated, inside and out, and provides
modern office, meeting and amenity spaces in line with current workplace strategies.
It achieved LEED® Silver certification.
The design team engaged with 17 separate county departments and stakeholders
during the pre-design phase, knowing from the onset not all groups would be a
part of the final project. The pre-design process determined the functional needs
of each group and priorities of Durham County. Working with multiple parties, the
9 departments and 5 additional program components in the building represent
the departments most suitable to address the long-term needs of the County.
Recommendations for the remaining departments were also provided.
Design objectives also included improving the pedestrian and urban scale of the
building, activating the first-floor level with retail and community meeting spaces to
enliven East Main Street, activating the Plaza Level with landscape and hardscape
improvements, accounting for future growth, creating a sustainable building, and
extending the life of the existing structure.
DURHAM COUNTY
ADMINISTRATION II BUILDING RENOVATION
Docusign Envelope ID: ED9774D9-AC0C-4CB2-997F-EA672B7B6C5D
