Orange County Health Department Improvements Smith Sinnett /2024008 <br />Hillsborough,NC Orange County Asset Management Services <br />HVAC DUCTS AND CASINGS 23 31 00 - 1 <br />SECTION 23 31 00 <br />HVAC DUCTS AND CASINGS <br />PART 1 GENERAL <br />1.01 SECTION INCLUDES <br />A Metal ducts. <br />B Flexible ducts. <br />1.02 REFERENCE STANDARDS <br />A ASHRAE (FUND)-ASHRAE Handbook -Fundamentals;Most Recent Edition Cited by Referring Code or <br />Reference Standard. <br />B ASTM A36/A36M -Standard Specification for Carbon Structural Steel;2019. <br />C ASTM A653/A653M -Standard Specification for Steel Sheet,Zinc-Coated (Galvanized)or Zinc-Iron Alloy- <br />Coated (Galvannealed)by the Hot-Dip Process;2023. <br />D ASTM E84 -Standard Test Method for Surface Burning Characteristics of Building Materials;2018b. <br />E NFPA 90A -Standard for the Installation of Air-Conditioning and Ventilating Systems;2024. <br />F SMACNA (DCS)-HVAC Duct Construction Standards Metal and Flexible;2020. <br />G SMACNA (LEAK)-HVAC Air Duct Leakage Test Manual;2012. <br />H UL 181 -Standard for Factory-Made Air Ducts and Air Connectors;current edition,including all revisions. <br />1.03 SUBMITTALS <br />A Product Data: Provide data for duct materials and duct connections. <br />B Shop Drawings: Indicate duct fittings,particulars such as gages,sizes,welds,and configuration prior to start <br />of work for ​all​systems. <br />1.Clearly indicate which fittings shall be used on the project:elbows,wyes,takeoffs,transitions,offsets, <br />etc. <br />C Test Reports: Indicate pressure tests performed.Include date,section tested,test pressure,and leakage rate <br />per appropriate seal class,following SMACNA (LEAK). <br />1.04 QUALITY ASSURANCE <br />A Manufacturer Qualifications: Company specializing in manufacturing the type of products specified in this <br />section,with minimum three years of documented experience,and approved by manufacturer. <br />B Galvanizing thickness and country of origin must be clearly stenciled on each duct section.At the discretion <br />of the Engineer,sheet metal gauges and reinforcing may be randomly checked to verify all duct construction <br />is in compliance. <br />C Ductwork and fittings must have a computer generated label affixed to each section detailing the duct <br />dimensions,sheet metal gauge,intermediate and joint reinforcement size,and the transverse connector brand <br />and classification. <br />1.05 FIELD CONDITIONS <br />A Do not install duct sealants when temperatures are less than those recommended by sealant manufacturers. <br />B Maintain temperatures within acceptable range during and after installation of duct sealants. <br />C If ductwork is stored on site,elevate duct above floors and maintain protection on ends. <br />PART 2 PRODUCTS <br />2.01 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS <br />A Provide​​​​ductwork,fittings,hangers,supports,and appurtenances in accordance with ​NFPA 90A and <br />SMACNA (DCS)​guidelines unless stated otherwise​​. <br />B Duct Sealing and Leakage in accordance with Static Pressure Class: <br />1.Low Pressure Service: Up to 2 in-wc: <br />a.Seal: Class C,apply to seal off transverse joints. <br />b.Leakage: <br />1)Rectangular:Class 16 <br />2)Round:Class 8 <br />2.Medium Pressure Service:4 in-wc and above <br />Docusign Envelope ID: 2D852F9B-A7CF-462A-9536-444A53AA848A
