He <br /> said the group worked with various stakeholders to help bring the crisis diversion facility from its <br /> earliest concepts to the options the Board is considering. He said this facility is more than just <br /> building. He said the process has been a true collaboration among all the stakeholders. He said <br /> hn also serves on the NAK8| North Carolina Policy Committee. Hm said that he's heard from many <br /> in the community about the need for the project and he thanked the Board for considering the <br /> project. <br /> Bin8 B8nejee, o senior at UNC} Chapel Hill and Director of Basic Needs for the <br /> Undergraduate Student Government and is on the Chapel Hill Police Community Advisory <br /> Committee. She noted her work with community organizations aiding unhoused populations and <br /> described the community safety concerns around Franklin Gtnaet, including verbal honannrn8nt <br /> and physical threats. She supported the expanded crisis center design due to its eon8nU8| <br /> elements like coordinated diacharge, resource space, behavioral health urgent care, and dual <br /> entrances. <br /> Kira Heppe said she is UNC student and 8 member of the Department of Basic Needs. <br /> She said an investment in the facility is an investment in heo|th, eafab/ and belonging of the <br /> community. She said it will reduce the presence of emergency services seen daily on Franklin <br /> Street. She said without a proper discharge space, residents could end up unhoused again. She <br /> said providing preventative care will increase well-being and safety for the community. <br /> Choir Bedford said that the Sheriff said that this facility is a high priority for himn, and that <br /> hein losing detention center staff who are not trained to deal with inmates in the midst ofomental <br /> health crisis. She said there in support from the judicial system. |ovv enforoement, emergency <br /> services, and the university.
