Our work at the City of Durham Police Headquarters
included a DEMS and its support spaces, including secure data storage and physical
space for dash and body cameras. The design team will utilize the expertise of
subject-matter-expert SLAM and low-voltage security consultant J&A to help
Secure entry point integrate a robust and secure storage for any DEM system Orange County might have
separating Durham or choose to employ.
Police Headquarters'
lobby from the rest of O'Brien Atkins understands that the foundation of North Carolina Law Enforcement
the building Accreditation (NCLEA) accreditation rests not only on policy but also on the physical
environment that enables compliance. We will consider this goal throughout the
design process to ensure the constructed facility will meet or exceed the operational,
security, and documentation standards mandated by the NCLEA program.
JOHN LINK GOVERNMENT SERVICES CENTER
The primary role of a Sheriff's Office is to provide safe, efficient, convenient service
— ° to the community. The Sheriffs Office has both public-facing departments and
secure operations in one building, requiring an understanding of security protocols
and systems. O'Brien Atkins' portfolio and support from security consultant J&A
Engineering will allow us to provide a successful combination of public and private
spaces within the Link building.
Improving service to Renovating the Link Building will provide the Sheriff with enough space for
the community expansion and provide a welcoming public presence on Cameron Street. There is
also the opportunity to consider an entrance off Margret Street so that the entire
Justice Complex will have a unified street address, which enables a separate lower-
level staff entrance.
Some program elements to be considered for this facility include:
• Reception
• Admin Offices
,wl
• Squad Room Roll Call
• Investigations Rooms, including Interview Areas
• Dispatch Communications for 911
• Training Rooms
Enhanced pedestrian • Holding Cells
experience at the • Storage
renovated Durham • Locker/Break/Exercise Rooms
County Admin II • Data and IT Storage (DEMS)
A key challenge with the Link Building is its current unoccupied status due to
environmental hazards stemming from water intrusion. The design team will start
with a thorough investigation, utilizing Terracon's Industrial Hygienist and Raymond's
Building Envelope consultant to fully understand the scope of the damage.
+: Identifying solutions to mitigating the hazards and preventing future water intrusion
+ Cn SLAM are critical to the success of this project. 122
