Water supply
Bryant Green said this slide summarizes the barriers the town is balancing and shows the
order of priority in which they are trying to address them. He said the pump station mentioned
earlier that was going to be addressed before the BRICK funding was rescinded is part of the
collection system, which is the top priority right now. The second priority is the distribution system,
which encompasses the water quality issues as well as the quantity of water and maintaining
adequate fire flow.
Matt Efird reiterated that there are issues with the system that takes the water from the
water treatment plant and provides it to homes, and the town has invested a lot of capital money
in that area. He said there is a big problem with the system that takes the sewage from the homes
to the water treatment plant, and that's where most of the system capacity restraints are. To
summarize, he said it's less of a system treatment capacity issue but more of the constraints
between the existing system and homes and moving that sewage to the plants. As a result, there
are a lot of planned upgrades to serve development, things like outfalls and the pump stations
that move the sewage around wastewater.
Chair Bedford asked what outfall is.
Matt Efird said it's a collection of smaller pipes that move water to a bigger pipe and out.
