Tax Assessment Work Group—Appointments Discussion <br /> The Board discussed and approved appointments to the Community Representative positions <br /> on the Tax Assessment Work Group. <br /> BACKGROUND: At the September 16, 2025 Business Meeting, the Board of County <br /> Commissioners officially established and approved the composition and charge for the Tax <br /> Assessment Work Group (the Work Group), and appointed Commissioners Phyllis Portie- <br /> Ascott, Marilyn Carter, and Amy Fowler to serve. <br /> The charge of the Work Group is to evaluate the policies, processes, and procedures used by <br /> the Orange County Tax Office to assess property values and communicate to the public. The <br /> Work Group will provide feedback and input to a consultant retained by the County to make <br /> recommendations on changes and enhancements to the tax assessment process that will <br /> improve and ensure the accuracy and fairness of property assessments. <br /> The full composition of the Work Group includes: <br /> • Three Commissioners <br /> • County Manager <br /> • Tax Administrator <br /> • Budget Director <br /> • Director of Civil Rights and Civic Life <br /> • Community Relations Director <br /> • Representative from the North Carolina Housing Coalition <br /> • Representative from the Orange County Property Tax Justice Coalition <br /> • Non-Profit Housing Provider <br /> • Two (2) Community Representatives from District 1 <br /> • Two (2) Community Representatives from District 2 <br />
