96
The survey and design teams for the Highway 86 project did a field visit to explore the sight distance.
Their findings are provided below and attached. Please let us know how that would impact the
driveway design. Since the sight distance minimums are met, would full access be acceptable? Also,
with the majority of traffic coming from the south, would turn lanes be required?
The sight distance for a 50 mph roadway is 551'looking right and 478'looking left. This is based on
the formula 1.47 x seconds x Design speed. Seconds is 7.5 for looking right, and 6.5 for looking left.
At the northern driveway we have 1028' (551'required),and 898'(478' required). For the southern
driveway, looking right we have 551' (551'required),and 813'(478' required).
Thanks,
Joshua Reinke, PE (NC)
Traffic Senior Project Manager
Bolton & Menk, Inc.
n (864)887-3905
From: Edwards, Charles N <cnedwards(@ncdot.gov>
Sent:Thursday, January 16, 2025 3:20 PM
To: Allison Wise<allison.wise(@bolton-menk.com>; Lineberger, Nicholas C
<nclineberger(@ncdot.gov>;pmallett(@orangecountync.gov; cstoberccDorangecountync.gov;
tperschau(@orangecountync.gov
Cc:Joshua Reinke<ioshua.reinke(@bolton-menk.com>; Donald Sever<donald.sever(@bowman.com>
Subject: RE: [External] Highway 86 Subdivision -Trip Generation
I have reviewed the information provided and offer the comments below.
PermlttlnE.
Prior to performing work in the NCDOT right of way, the applicant will need to obtain the following:
• Approved NCDOT Driveway Permit
• Approved NCDOT 3-party encroachment agreement for any proposed/stipulated water and
sewer or sidewalk construction
Trip Generation and Traffic Impacts:
Based on the information provided, the proposed development consists of a 42-lot single family
residential subdivision.
