o~t~sizoos ii <br />Flood Insurance Study (FIS) means an examinatiaa, evnlzration, and determination of flood <br />hazard areas, corresponding water sur face elevatimas (f appropriate), flood insurance risk zones, and (3) <br />other flood data in Orange County issued by FEMA The FIS r°eport contains an evaluation and <br />determination of flood hazards and cor-r°espondnag flood profiles, ns well as FIRMS and FBFMs, if <br />published. <br />Floodplain or Flood Prone Area naearas any land area susceptible to being inundated by water <br />from any source. All floodplains are flood prone. For flood iusurnrtce purposes, the Jlood prone <br />portions of the Im:dscnpe (lloodplains) are placed in Special Flood Hazard Areas (See Flood Hazard <br />Area) defined by a Base Flood Elevation (See Base Flood i~t) rnr:tnur, wlrirh is ived,fron: <br />/tydrologic and /t•ydrarrlic sterdies. Planning Board suggestion : <br />Floodplain Admini h~ator is the individual appointed by the County Manager to administer and <br />enforce the foodplain management regulations. <br />(3) Floodplain Management means the operation of nn overall program of corrective and preventive <br />measures for• reducing. flood damage and preserving and enhancing, where possible, natural resources <br />in the foodplain, including but not limited to emergency prepm•edness plans, flood control works, <br />floodplnin management regulations, and open space plans, <br />Floodplain Regulations means this Ordinance and other zoning ordinances, subdivision <br />regulations, building codes, health regulations, special purpose ordinances, and other applications of <br />police power, which control development in flood prone m•ens. This ter»a describes federal, state or' <br />local regulations in any combination thereof, which provide standards ,for preventing and reducing <br />flood loss and damage. <br />Flood Proofing means any combination of structural and nonstructural additions, changes, or <br />adjustments to structures, which reduce or eliminate risk of flood damage to real estate or improved real <br />property, water and sanitation facilities, or structures with their contents, <br />Floodway means the channel of a river or other watercourse and the adjacent land azeas that must <br />be reserved in order to discharge the base flood without cumulatively increasing the water surface <br />elevation more than one (1) foot, This term may also be referred to as "regulatory floodway, " <br />Flood Zone means a geographical area shown on n FHBM or FIRM that reflects the severity or <br />type of flooding in the area.. <br />Floor (see "Lowest Floor "). (3) <br />Freeboard naearas the additional amount of height added to the Base Flood Elevation (BFE) to <br />accoznt for uncertainties in the determination of flood elevations. <br />Functionally Dependent Facili(y means a facility, which cannot be used for its intended purpose <br />unless it is located in close proximity to water, such as a docking, or port facility necessary for the <br />loading and unloading of cazgo or passengers, shipbuilding, or ship repair. The term does not include <br />long-term storage, manufacture, sales, or service facilities. <br />
