I
currently serve as the Substance Use Education & Prevention Coordinator at UNC-Chapel Hill,
where I lead campus-wide harm reduction initiatives, oversee naloxone distribution, and
collaborate with community partners on sustainable prevention strategies. I've managed over
$300,000 in substance use-related grants and have authored funding proposals for opioid
settlement dollars. I also bring lived experience as a person in long-term recovery, which
deepens my understanding of effective and compassionate approaches to substance use.
Please explain your reasons for wanting to serve on this board
I want to ensure that opioid settlement funds are allocated in ways that promote equity,
sustainability, and evidence-based practices. With both professional and personal insight into
substance use and recovery, I hope to advocate for strategies that reduce harm, support
communities, and invest in prevention and treatment infrastructure. I also bring experience
tracking outcomes, managing grants, and evaluating programs' skills that can support
responsible and impactful allocation of these funds.
How would your particpation on this board contribute to the diversity of viewpoints?
I bring both professional and lived experience to the board. As a person in recovery working in
public health, I understand the nuances of substance use across different communities,
including how stigma and systemic inequities limit access to care. I also work regularly with
students from a variety of backgrounds and identities, which has shaped an intersectional lens I
apply to all policy and program work.
