17 <br /> Slide #19 <br /> b)Include and known/potential changes due to regulations. <br /> Basic Timeline/History: <br /> • 1986- NC's Water Supply Protection Program first started (voluntarily) <br /> • 1989-General Assembly ratified the Water Supply Watershed <br /> Protection Act(the Act), GS 143-214.5 <br /> • 1990 to 1992—Workshops held across state to define Rules and <br /> classify the water supply watershed footprints <br /> • January 1, 1994—Counties required to adopt the defined Rules into <br /> their ordinances <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> NORTH CAROLINA <br /> Christopher Sandt said the county started integrating some limited water supply protection <br /> programs in the late 1980s and was forward-thinking prior to these watersheds being refined. He <br /> said University Lake was one of the first that was focused on from a water quality perspective and <br /> a watershed protection perspective back in the 1970s and 1980s.
