15

Slide #18 1
2 Christopher Sandt, County Engineer, continued the presentation. He indicated that 3
everything in the northeast corner of the county drains to Falls Lake. He pointed out the thick blue 4
line in the middle of the map as the break line between the Jordan Lake Basin and the Falls Lake 5
Basin. He said there is a small section in the northern part of the county that drains up to the 6
Roanoke Basin in Virginia. He said the light blue areas on the map are the protected watersheds, 7
and the darker blue areas are the critical watersheds. He explained that the darker blue 8
watersheds are adjacent to the water supply reservoirs. After reviewing the acronyms on the slide, 9
Christopher Sandt explained the difference between density and impervious surface. He said the 10
number of dwellings per unit of land is density, while impervious surface limits are the actual 11
percentage of impervious area on a particular parcel as it relates to the overall size of the parcel. 12
He said the lightest areas of the map do not specifically have lot density and impervious surface 13
area requirements, but the county does manage stormwater and erosion control for those areas. 14
He said there are also stormwater and erosion control requirements for every watershed in the 15
county. 16
