This appointment is to become immediately effective. <br /> Paul Seibel, Community Services Consultant, presented to the Board a copy of 1 <br /> a proposed resolution to establish a commission on Economic Opportunity of Orange <br /> County, N. C., and a copy of proposed prooeedures for 9-public agencey to handle <br /> Economic Opportunity matters for Orange County. Discussion ensued. No action <br /> was taken. <br /> The Orange County School Board, G. Paul Carr, Supt. of Schools and S. E. Latta, ' <br /> Manager of the Orange County School Bus Garage, presented to the Board a request for y <br /> an additional school bus. Mr. Latta submitted to the Board a letter dated October <br /> 22, 1965, written by D. S. Dark, Transporation Assistant, Division of Transporation, ;;. <br /> State Board of Education, Raleigh N. C. Said letter stated "that in one instance <br />4 <br /> we found that buses #39, #15 and <br />3 operati in the old Murphy School area are <br /> overcrowded. We have found no way to relieve this situation other than to add an <br /> additional bus." No action was taken on said request. <br /> Supt. Carr informed the Board of Commissioners that the County School Unit <br /> would need in the immediate future $400,000.00 for the purpose of constructing a S <br /> Junior High School. Supt. Carr cited this need was evident on the basic of a recently <br /> completed study conducted by the State Board of Education in conjuction with the <br /> County School Unit. He stated further it was the wish of the County School Board <br /> to let bids on the proposed building in order that same might be ready for <br /> occupancy by the fall of 1967. Discussion ensued. No action was taken. <br /> The Cbeirman announced that the Board had received a petition from the <br /> resident freeholders living in Sections 1 and 2 of Colony Woods Subdivision, which <br /> subdivision lies outside the corporate limits of any Town, and that the said petition <br /> contains the names of more than fifteen per cent of the resident freeholders living <br /> in said subdivision and that pursuant to the requirements of General Statutes <br /> 65-25,1 it was the duty of the Board to call an election in said district for the <br /> purpose of submitting to the qualified voters therein the question of levying and <br /> collecting a special tax on all taxable property in said district, of not exceeding <br /> fifteen cents on the one hundred dollar valuation of property, for the purpose of <br /> providing fire portection in said district. <br />- Thereupon Commissioner Smith introduced the following resolution which wee read: <br /> RESOLUTION CALLING A SPECIAL ELECTION <br /> <br /> Whereas, the Board of County Commissioners has received a petition of more than <br /> fifteen per cent of the resident freeholders living in Sections 1 and 2 of Colony <br /> Woods Subdivision and that said subdivision lies outside the corporate limits of any <br /> city or town and that said Sections 1 and 2 of Colony Woods Subdivision is. <br />shaan by <br /> , <br />metes and bounds on plots duly recorded in the office of the Register of Deeds of <br /> Orange County, Section 1, Port A, being recorded in Map Book 12, at page 16, and <br /> Section 2 thereof being shown in Map Book 13, at page 137, which area is described <br /> in the petition and is hereby designated as "Colony Woods Fire District". <br /> <br /> NOW BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners for the County of ` <br /> Orange: <br />i` <br /> Section 1. A special election is hereby called to be held on Tuesday, r <br /> December 21, 1965, between 6:30 A.M. and 6:30 P.M., Eastern Standard Time, at which F,. <br /> there shall be submitted to the qualified voters in said District, the following <br /> question: <br /> Shall a special tax on all taxable property in Colony <br /> Woods Fire District, of not exceeding fifty cents <br /> (15?O of the one hundred dollar vaulation of property, <br /> for the purpose of providing fire portection in said <br /> district, be levied therein? <br /> Section 2. For said special election there shall be a new registration of the <br /> qualified voters residing in said Colony Woods Fire District and a new registration <br /> book shall be open for the registration of the voters therein from 9 A.M. until <br /> sunset on each day, beginning November 23, 1965, and closing Tuesday, December 7 <br /> , <br />1965. On each Tuesday during such registration period such book shall be open at <br /> the polling place hereinafter designated. Tuesday, December 14, 1965, shell be <br /> Challenge Day. <br /> <br />4 Section 3.
