Schnitzer agreed that the alignment of policies is helpful, as will long-term advocacy, and he <br /> highlighted the need for short term actions. <br /> Trueblood offered a reminder that the Council's challenge is time and that there is not much <br /> time to plan. She recommended a process where the Council goes ahead and pushes for a <br /> list of policies and low-hanging fruit that can be acted on immediately while more deliberate <br /> plans were taking shape. She also offered the perspective that it is easy for the focus of the <br /> Council to be about people, but we should also work to counter impacts on environmental <br /> quality(habitat and wildlife) and acknowledge that people are part of an environmental <br /> system. <br /> Van Mater said that he was concerned about nailing down the Council's values and <br /> expressed a concern about what he felt was an unclear resolution to the mitigation and <br /> resilience discussion in the first meeting. <br /> Ryerson said that as a student,this is an exciting way to engage with community. UNC plays <br /> a big part in the total emissions picture for Orange County and students have a strong voice. <br /> Long stated that he was excited to be here and was happy to be seen as a resource to assist <br /> the group. <br /> Tiger said that she was thinking about the data the Council could use to aggregate to <br /> illustrate a bigger picture and how to use that to help guide action.
