Drawing on this I have <br /> worked with Ross White (UNC & Bull City Press) to curate two reading series and am launching <br /> a translation chapbook journal this year. I am a writer and translator. Reading and writing are <br /> two of the most inexpensive ways to engage with arts at any level or age. They encourage the <br /> reader and writer to engage with the thoughts and imagination of someone else across time <br /> and culture. Additionally, the written word and oral arts enhance our engagement with all other <br /> forms of art. <br /> Please explain your reasons for wanting to serve on this board <br /> Community is at the core of the work the Arts Commission does. It provides moments for <br /> connection, engagement, and communication that are hard to mimic in other areas. I would like <br /> to work with the Arts Commission to ensure that support for artists & arts organizations remains <br /> solid and that arts programming continues to grow and invites all of our neighbors to engage in <br /> new ways. <br /> How would your particpation on this board contribute to the diversity of viewpoints? <br /> Since I have worked with Ross White, we have striven to present voices that are emerging, mid- <br /> career, and national award winners from all areas of the US, representing a wide variety of lived <br /> experiences.
