Attachment 1 <br /> 1 <br /> 1 DRAFT MINUTES <br /> 2 ORANGE COUNTY <br /> 3 BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 4 BUSINESS MEETING <br /> 5 July 8, 2025 <br /> 6 7:00 p.m. <br /> 7 <br /> 8 The Orange County Board of Commissioners met for a Business Meeting on Tuesday, July 8, <br /> 9 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at the Whitted Human Services Center in Hillsborough, NC. <br /> 10 <br /> 11 COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chair Jamezetta Bedford, Vice-Chair Jean Hamilton <br /> 12 and Commissioners Marilyn Carter, Amy Fowler, Sally Greene, Earl McKee, and Phyllis Portie- <br /> 13 Ascott <br /> 14 COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None. <br /> 15 COUNTY ATTORNEYS PRESENT: John Roberts <br /> 16 COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: County Manager Travis Myren, Deputy County Manager Caitlin <br /> 17 Fenhagen, and Clerk to the Board Laura Jensen. (All other staff members will be identified <br /> 18 appropriately below) <br /> 19 <br /> 20 Chair Bedford called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. All commissioners were present. <br /> 21 <br /> 22 1. Additions or Changes to the Agenda <br /> 23 <br /> 24 A motion was made by Commissioner McKee, seconded by Commissioner Carter, to <br /> 25 remove item 6-a from the agenda. <br /> 26 <br /> 27 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 28 <br /> 29 Chair Bedford read the public charge. <br /> 30 <br /> 31 2. Public Comments (Limited to One Hour) <br /> 32 a. Matters not on the Printed Agenda <br /> 33 There was no one signed up to speak. <br /> 34 <br /> 35 b. Matters on the Printed Agenda <br /> 36 (These matters will be considered when the Board addresses that item on the agenda below.) <br /> 37 <br /> 38 3. Announcements, Petitions and Comments by Board Members <br /> 39 Chair Bedford thanked the county's emergency management team for their response to <br /> 40 Tropical Storm Chantal. She described some of the different ways the county and municipalities <br /> 41 worked together during the storm as well as recovery. <br /> 42 Commissioner Portie-Ascott expressed thanks to emergency management for their <br /> 43 efforts. She said she attended two Juneteenth events, one at Mount Zion featuring the <br /> 44 Tuskegee Airmen with flight simulation activities, and another at Jones Grove Baptist Church <br /> 45 where the Sheriff's department and state highway patrol participated. and the Perry Hills mini- <br /> 46 park opening. She said she attended the NCACC briefing on Medicaid and SNAP benefit cuts. <br /> 47 Commissioner Greene said she attended Juneteenth celebration at Mount Zion and the <br /> 48 Festival for the Eno on July 4th. She thanked the Emergency Services Director, Kirby Saunders, <br /> 49 and his team for their work during Tropical Storm Chantal. She expressed her sympathy to the <br /> 50 families impacted by the storm. She said that this storm and the recent floods in Texas show <br /> 51 the need for investment in emergency services. <br />
