She said the demands on election staff are year-round and require institutional
knowledge and they should start building the capacity mid-year, which is a fiscally responsible.
She said that this would help prepare for the 2026 general election and beyond and gives staff
critical support.
A motion was made by Commissioner Portie-Ascott, seconded by Commissioner Greene,
to approve budget amendment OP-1305.
Commissioner McKee said that this is a wise move especially given the atmosphere of
politics. He said that he does not want to allow any opportunity for anyone in Orange County
called into question because they were not fully staffed.
Commissioner Fowler said this is a bargain for ensuring election integrity.
Commissioner Carter agreed with Commissioner Fowler, and said that the legislature
continues to pile on additional requirements and changes.
VOTE: UNANIMOUS
