ORANGE COUNTY GOVERNMENT
ORAY TRANSPORTATION SERVICES DEPARTMENT ri
OrangeCounty
NORrH GLROLLNA PULICTRANSIT
SUMMARY
SITE REVIEW
The proposed project is for a home occupation permit on a 10.2-acre rural lot in southern Orange County, partially
extending into Chatham County. The property is at the terminus of Uwharie Ridge Road, a privately maintained
road with a 50-foot right-of-way connecting south to state-maintained Jones Ferry Road.
The applicant seeks approval to construct a 594 sq. ft. accessory office building approximately 400 feet from the
private road. Field observations and site assessments (including aerial imagery and on-site conditions) indicate
that this development will not significantly impact the transportation network. While there may be a minor
increase in vehicle traffic associated with the office, no modifications to Uwharie Ridge Road are proposed or
expected.
PLANS
Current Planning Context:
• No County-recommended transportation projects in any adopted plan.
• No multimodal projects identified in CPRPO,TWTPO, or within the BG MPO area.
• Not designated as a Community of Concern in the Environmental Justice Report.
• No state-funded transportation projects planned or committed nearby.
Future Considerations:
• The County Strategic Plan recommends improving transit access in rural areas.
• Uwharie Ridge Road currently supports County Demand Response and Mobility-on-Demand (MOD).
• Uwharie Ridge Road must be upgraded to state standards to be added to state system
Note: The proposed office may contribute to slight traffic generation.
TRANSPORTATION IMPACT
Performance (All Modes):
• Bicycle/Pedestrian: Potential for modest increase in activity along the private road.
• Transit: Potential rise in MOD service demand.
• Highway Mobility: Minor increase in vehicle trips expected.
• Modernization: Road upgrades required for any NCDOT assumption.
Climate Action:
• Trips may involve EVs in the future.
• No mitigation measures required currently.
Strategic Plan Alignment:
• No conflicts with County Strategic Plan.
• May enhance the case for transit services along Uwharie Ridge Road.
Project Prioritization:
0 No influence on current County prioritization or future project identification.
