5 <br /> 1 Chair Bedford introduced the item. <br /> 2 Commissioners read the following proclamation in turn: <br /> 3 <br /> 4 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 5 PROCLAMATION HONORING JASON JOHNSON <br /> 6 AS THE 2025 WELLS FARGO <br /> 7 NORTH CAROLINA PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR <br /> 8 <br /> 9 WHEREAS, Orange High School Principal Jason Johnson has generously contributed and <br /> 10 worked tirelessly in public education for 28 years; and <br /> 11 <br /> 12 WHEREAS, Principal Johnson served as a teacher, school transformation coach, assistant <br /> 13 principal, and executive director of Orange County Schools before returning to his calling as a <br /> 14 principal; and <br /> 15 <br /> 16 WHEREAS, working with students, teachers, and families is at the heart of who Principal <br /> 17 Johnson is as an educational leader; and <br /> 18 <br /> 19 WHEREAS, as principal, Jason Johnson is an advocate for equity in schools and ensuring that <br /> 20 student voices are heard; and <br /> 21 <br /> 22 WHEREAS, under his leadership, Orange High School exceeded academic growth in 2024 and <br /> 23 rose from a C to a B school as rated by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction; and <br /> 24 <br /> 25 WHEREAS, Principal Johnson was previously the 2010 and 2024 Orange County Schools <br /> 26 Principal of the Year; and <br /> 27 <br /> 28 WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson has also lent his expertise and experience to the Orange County <br /> 29 Schools Equity Task Force, the Orange County Government School Bond Education <br /> 30 Committee, the Orange County Business Advisory Council, and the North Carolina State <br /> 31 Employees' Credit Union (SECU)Advisory Committee; and <br /> 32 <br /> 33 WHEREAS, Principal Johnson leads by listening to teachers, students, staff members, and <br /> 34 members of the community, and fosters a collaborative culture at Orange High School; <br /> 35 <br /> 36 NOW, THEREFORE, we, the Orange County Board of Commissioners, do hereby honor <br /> 37 Principal Jason Johnson as the 2025 Wells Fargo North Carolina Principal of the Year and <br /> 38 encourage the residents of Orange County to join with us in expressing gratitude for his <br /> 39 dedicated service to education. <br /> 40 <br /> 41 This the 17th day of June, 2025. <br /> 42 <br /> 43 <br /> 44 Jamezetta Bedford, Chair <br /> 45 Orange County Board of Commissioners <br /> 46 <br /> 47 A motion was made by Commissioner McKee, seconded by Commissioner Portie- <br /> 48 Ascott, to approve and authorize the Chair to sign the proclamation. <br /> 49 <br /> 50 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 51 <br />
