She said the demands on election staff are year-round and require institutional <br /> 5 knowledge and they should start building the capacity mid-year, which is a fiscally responsible. <br /> 6 She said that this would help prepare for the 2026 general election and beyond and gives staff <br /> 7 critical support. <br /> 8 <br /> 9 A motion was made by Commissioner Portie-Ascott, seconded by Commissioner Greene, <br /> 10 to approve budget amendment OP-1305. <br /> 11 <br /> 12 Commissioner McKee said that this is a wise move especially given the atmosphere of <br /> 13 politics. He said that he does not want to allow any opportunity for anyone in Orange County <br /> 14 called into question because they were not fully staffed. <br /> 15 Commissioner Fowler said this is a bargain for ensuring election integrity. <br /> 16 Commissioner Carter agreed with Commissioner Fowler, and said that the legislature <br /> 17 continues to pile on additional requirements and changes. <br /> 18 <br /> 19 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 20 <br /> 21 <br />
