7 <br /> 1 WHEREAS, Pride Month honors the legacy of LGBTQ trailblazers who paved the way for greater <br /> 2 acceptance, visibility, and equality—from the courageous acts at the Stonewall Inn in 1969 to the <br /> 3 ongoing advocacy that has led to transformative social and legal progress across the nation; and <br /> 4 June serves as a time to reflect on these milestones, celebrate the rich diversity of the LGBTQ <br /> 5 community, and recommit to building a future rooted in equity, inclusion, and justice for all; and <br /> 6 <br /> 7 WHEREAS, Orange County has a history of advancing the rights of its LGBTQ residents, <br /> 8 including Carrboro becoming the first town in the state to enact a domestic registry for same sex <br /> 9 partners, extending eligibility for employment benefits to same-sex partners of County employees <br /> 10 in September 2004, and the election of a gay and lesbian elected officials within the County; and <br /> 11 <br /> 12 WHEREAS, additionally, in January of 2021, Orange County was among the first local <br /> 13 governments in the state (along with Hillsborough, Carrboro, and Chapel Hill) to pass a local <br /> 14 nondiscrimination law extending protections in public accommodation and employment for <br /> 15 persons based on their sexual orientation, and gender identity or expression; and <br /> 16 <br /> 17 WHEREAS, Pride Month is a vibrant celebration of love, authenticity, and community, honoring <br /> 18 the strength and resilience of LGBTQ individuals who continue to shape culture, drive progress, <br /> 19 and inspire future generations; and Pride events across the country and in Orange County—such <br /> 20 as the Chapel Hill Pride Promenade on June 7th - provide opportunities for education, artistic <br /> 21 expression, joyful visibility, unity, and foster environments where people of all identities can be <br /> 22 seen, supported, and celebrated; and <br /> 23 <br /> 24 WHEREAS, Orange County is committed to standing with and supporting the LGBTQ community, <br /> 25 and to working to ensure that all of people, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity <br /> 26 or expression, are treated with respect and dignity; <br /> 27 <br /> 28 NOW, THEREFORE, we, the Orange County Board of Commissioners, do hereby proclaim the <br /> 29 month of June 2025 as PRIDE MONTH in Orange County. <br /> 30 <br /> 31 This the 3rd day of June 2025. <br /> 32 <br /> 33 Jamezetta Bedford, Chair <br /> 34 Orange County Board of Commissioners <br /> 35 <br /> 36 <br /> 37 A motion was made by Commissioner Carter, seconded by Commissioner Fowler, to <br /> 38 approve and authorize the Chair to sign the proclamation. <br /> 39 <br /> 40 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 41 <br /> 42 5. Application for Zoning Atlas Amendment — 1125 New Grady Brown School Road, <br /> 44 Hillsborough, Hillsborough Township <br /> 45 The Board conducted a public hearing and considered action on a County-initiated Zoning Atlas <br /> 46 Amendment to rezone +/- 69.58 acres (PIN: 9863-28-1858) located at 1125 New Grady Brown <br /> 47 School Road, Hillsborough, within the Hillsborough Township of Orange County. <br /> 48 <br /> 49 BACKGROUND: A Conditional Zoning Atlas Amendment application (Attachment 1) was <br /> 50 received proposing to rezone approximately 69.58 acres of property at 1125 New Grady Brown <br /> 51 School Road, Hillsborough. Orange County is the property owner on record of Cedar Ridge High <br />
