Describe how the agency incorporates racial equity into its goals. (150 word limit)
Racial equity is vital to the success of The Alliance and central to our role as a
resource for heritage education. We are committed to ensuring that all voices
are represented and heard in the diverse narratives of our community. To
achieve this, we prioritize ongoing racial equity education opportunities for our
staff, fostering understanding and accountability within our organization.
We also actively partner with individuals and organizations that elevate the
perspectives of historically marginalized communities, ensuring that our
programs and initiatives reflect the diversity of our area. While racial equity
remains a core focus, The Alliance recognizes the importance of embracing
equity in all its forms, striving to incorporate and celebrate a wide range of
experiences and identities. This commitment allows us to build a more inclusive
and representative platform for heritage education and community
engagement.
Describe how the intended beneficiaries of the proposed project(s) were involved in the planning and design
process. (150 word limit)
Each heritage program hosted by The Alliance is the result of meaningful
collaboration. For example, Telling the Full Story is guided by an advisory
committee composed of local Black and Indigenous community members who
shape the project’s narratives and goals while helping to preserve and share oral
histories. Similarly, our programs at the Occaneechi Replica Village are
developed in partnership with the Occaneechi Band of the Saponi Nation
(OBSN) and local representatives to ensure cultural authenticity and accuracy
in education.
To enhance accessibility and strengthen community connections, we partner
with organizations such as the Passmore Center and the Orange County Public
Library. These partnerships allow us to better engage with diverse populations
and expand access to our offerings by providing free or low-cost programming.
These collaborations reflect our commitment to inclusivity, cultural
preservation, and creating opportunities for everyone to engage with our shared
heritage.
Percent (%) of Staff who attended racial equity
trainings.
–
Percent (%) of Board Members who attended racial
equity trainings.
–
Docusign Envelope ID: 94ACE484-9AC8-486E-B2D9-37E0C4E5E0CF
